Senator Cynthia Lummis has taken a stance in support of Coinbase in its legal confrontation with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). She has filed an amicus brief, which is aimed at bolstering Coinbase’s case against the SEC's actions.
The Wyoming Republican claims that the SEC has overstepped its granted authority and is effectively undermining the legislative powers of Congress. Lummis has openly criticized the enforcement-focused approach taken by the agency, particularly under the leadership of former Chair Gary Gensler.
