Ethereum’s Average Gas Fees Drop Below 1 Gwei For the First Time in Years

Ethereum gas fees have reached their lowest level in years, now below 1 Gwei, making on-chain transactions more affordable. Layer 2 networks like Optimism and Arbitrum also see reduced fees, under $0.01. The Dencun upgrade's blob-based transactions, introduced in March, have driven this trend. Prominent L2 networks Base and Arbitrum now handle more transactions per second than Ethereum's mainnet. Martin Koppelman of Gnosis suggests increasing Ethereum’s gas limit to boost Layer 1 activity. Lower fees are resulting in fewer ETH being burned, raising concerns of network inflation. Over the past day, 120 ETH were burned while the supply increased by more than 2,500 ETH. If this continues, Ethereum's supply could grow by over 943,000 ETH ($2.5 billion) within the next year.
