Ethiopia is emerging as a significant hub for Bitcoin mining, primarily due to its vast hydroelectric resources and relatively low electricity prices. This advantageous energy landscape is attracting local miners to the region.
The local mining operations currently consume about 600 megawatts (MW) of power. The availability of such an energy supply is set to further expand as additional capacity is anticipated to come online in the near future.
As a result of this increasing mining activity, Ethiopia has positioned itself as one of the primary cryptocurrency mining locations on the African continent.
