Andrey Lugovoy, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security, criticized the proposal to ban cryptocurrency mining in Russia's energy-surplus regions. He described such measures as "foolish" and detrimental to the industry.
Lugovoy argued that banning mining where there is excess electricity defies common sense and economic logic. Rather than imposing bans, he advocated for targeting illegal mining and establishing conditions that would allow for legal operations.
He emphasized that mining can be a major source of revenue for regional budgets and could further stimulate the development of energy infrastructure. Consequently, he urged the government to reevaluate its current stance and lend support to the industry.
